Our lodge is newly constructed in 2016. It has 6 bedrooms, 4.5 baths, a full kitchen, large utility room with washer/dryer, on demand hot water & plenty of space inside and out to comfortably house 12 to 14 hunters.
No, our guides are managing their dogs and the hunt. Their job is to put birds in the air, recover them after they are shot and to ensure that the hunt is conducted ethically and safely.
Not unless you are under the age of 16. Then, you need a previous license from the state of South Dakota or a hunter's safety card and a parent or guardian must sign the license.
You must shoot 4, 5 or 6 shot. In a 12 gauge, we recommend 2 3/4", 1 1/4 oz. of shot and 3 3/4 drams minimum powder charge. Three inch magnums are not recommended for a 12 gauge as they are much slower. In a 20 gauge, a 3" magnum is recommended.
No. You can shoot lead as well.
State law does not require it, but we prefer that you wear standard hunting gear with some blaze orange details. Shooting glasses are also highly recommended.
The hunting at Hetland’s Hunting Haven is always action-packed and we manage our habitat to ensure good hunting all season. Pheasant season in South Dakota is from the 3rd Saturday in October thru the 1st Sunday in January.
We recommend 12 and 20 gauge guns. Double barrels are acceptable but quick multiple shot opportunities can be missed.
Hunts will be a mixture of cropland, grassland and trees.
We hunt on our own private land, which has been groomed over the years to support multiple hunters with a great hunt and plenty of memories. Our Photo Gallery will give you a good idea of the ground you'll cover when you hunt at Hetland's.

We are located approximately 85 miles west of Sioux Falls or 20 miles northwest of Mitchell, just a few miles from I-90. Take Exit 319 (coming from east or west) and proceed north 1 mile to red flashing 4-way stop. Continue north for another 8 miles to 245th Street and turn right, after 1 mile turn left onto 398th Avenue and Hetland’s Hunting Haven is 1/4 mile north on the west (left) side of the road.
Dogs are welcome, however they must be able to stay in range of the group during the hunt. Dogs are not allowed inside the lodge. We do provide heated kennels for thier comfort.
Yes we do. Our professional staff will clean, dress and package your pheasants as part of your standard hunting package.
